Rigmor Baraas

Prof. Rigmor C. Baraas, professor of optometry and vision science at the University of South-Eastern Norway. She has an interdisciplinary approach to studying how eyes and vision develop and change with age and how this is related to general health. Rigmor has a PhD in Visual Neuroscience (University of Manchester) and her scientific experience includes both clinical and experimental research combining psychophysics, high-resolution imaging and genetics. She was previously vice dean for research at the Faculty of Health Sciences and the director of National Centre for Optics, Vision and Eye Care. Since 2015 she has been PI of the Southeast NOrway Vision and Visuomotor (SNOW) Study; a longitudinal study, enrolling 125 new participants every year, focusing on children’s development of refractive errors, vision and motor skills and how this interacts with health and learning through primary and secondary schools. She is PI on a study on refractive errors and colour vision in 16–24-year-olds including nearly 500 participants. She is head of the Colour Vision and Retinal Imaging Lab and partner on the EU Horizon 2020 ERA-NET NEURON project Artificial Intelligence for Diagnosing Retinal Diseases (AI D). She is PI of several industry-academia projects on XR, visual perception and secondary effects on eye and oculomotor function. She is the team leader of USN I-Merse.
